Celebrating the four-legged members of your family is a family fun day everyone can enjoy. From dog day celebrations to birthday parties, there’s always a reason to throw a puppy party and show our loyal companions the love and appreciation they deserve. The great news is that you don’t even need to break the bank to show your pup a good time. All it takes is a little imagination session in your K9 Candy frisbee camp and you can’t possibly go wrong in making your best friend’s day special.
Bow Wow Bash
Fido and his friends deserve to celebrate together, so why not host a backyard celebration barking for four-legged fun? Send out some paw-some hand-made invitations for a neighborhood party to all your dog-loving friends, family, and neighbors. Get a hard plastic kiddie pool and fill it with water for los mutts to cool off. Make sure you have frisbees, tennis balls, tug-of-war ropes and other assorted dog toys for the beasties to chase and play with. Some dogs even love the K9-style slip and slide with industrial tarps and your backyard hose. Don’t have enough space in your backyard to host a horde of hounds? Organize a meetup at your local dog park where the pups will be free to run, sniff, and play to their heart’s content.
Dog Day Afternoon
If your dog has been spending most of the summer lazing about the house, it’s time to pack up the pup and take them on a day trip they won’t soon forget. From discovering hidden gem hiking trails to trying out a new pet spa to just taking a scenic drive with the windows rolled down, there’s no limit to the number of day trip experiences you can share with your four-legged friend. Be sure to pack along some treats, kibble, and a water bowl and bottles of water if you’re planning on any sort of outdoor adventure. If you are, do research ahead of time to see which trails and parks are pet friendly and be sure to pack the insulated tarp for a soft, dog friendly place to take a nap. No matter where you end up, your furry friend will be thrilled at the chance to get out of the house and explore the world.
Pet Projects
Instead of breaking the bank buying expensive dog toys and gifts, why not gather up the family and get crafty with some dog-friendly DIYs? You don’t have to be a DIY expert to take on these simple projects. In fact, all you need on your side are some basic supplies and a bit of inspiration:
- Gather up your sewing supplies and stitch up some simple cloth toys, blankets, or even a new bandanna for your furry friend.
- The backyard obstacle course of your dog’s dreams is within reach if you’ve got a little bit of elbow grease and a whole lot of imagination. Set up your bac+kyard chairs into a maze configuration for your pups to race through, with plenty of treats on hand for rewards. Just remember to keep your protective chair covers on in case of over-enthusiastic muddy paws.
- While hot summer asphalt can be harmful to your pup’s paws, thankfully there are a slew of homemade remedies that you can whip up to soothe even the most tender of paws. Coconut oil, shea butter, beeswax, and olive oil can be combined to create a balm that softens rough paws and allows them to heal.
- If you’re handy with woodworking, simple projects such as stairs for small dogs or backyard doghouses that are a breeze. Basic woodworking projects can be completed in the span of a weekend and are great accessories your dog will be able to use for years to come.
Doggone Good Deeds
Not every pup is fortunate enough to have a home. Spread the cheer and goodwill of dogs worldwide by heading to your nearest animal shelter for a day of do-gooding. Shelters will be happy to have another pair of hands around to help clean cages, fill up food bowls, and take out the dogs for much-deserved walks and playtime. Donations of food, blankets, toys, custom tarps & tarp bags, and medicine are also highly appreciated and a simple way to give back to the dogs in need. And who knows: you may even end up falling in love with a shelter pup and bringing home a new furry friend.
